The Myrtle Beach Pavilion & Amusement Park-Only 22 signed and numbered prints remaining, 6 artist proofs
1908-2006
The Myrtle Beach Pavilion was built around 1908. It was a wooden one-story structure that housed an entertainment center, the town hall, and church on Sundays.
In 1920, the pavilion burned down. In 1925, a new two-story building was built. The pavilion was where “shagging” became the hot new dance at Myrtle Beach.
In 1944, this pavilion also burned down and in 1948 the pavilion was re-built, but this time of re-enforced concrete! A wise choice because this pavilion survived Hurricane Hazel in 1954! Also in the year 1948, a carnival was purchased and placed permanently in front and to the west of the pavilion.
In 1950, 14 more rides were added including the Herschell-Spillman Carousel and in 1957, the German Baden Band Organ was acquired. The 2-ton pipe organ features eighteen life-like figures that adorn the beautifully carved machine. 12 of them spin and dance.
We can’t always hold on to our old buildings forever, for “things” never last, but memories do! I hope this limited edition print will help you hold on to your memories of the Myrtle Beach Pavilion long after it is gone! Becky Stowe
